GB120 Steering Assembly Replacement

This guide explains how to replace the steering assembly on the Golden Technologies BuzzAround Carry-On GB120 mobility scooter. The steering assembly is part of the scooter’s front steering system and should be serviced carefully to maintain safe steering operation.

These instructions are based on manufacturer service documentation and are intended for qualified mobility equipment technicians. If you are not comfortable performing mechanical repairs, seek assistance from a qualified mobility scooter technician before attempting service work.

Tools Required

  • Small Straight Screwdriver
  • 5mm Allen Wrench
  • 8mm Allen Wrench

Safety Precautions

  • Engage the brake before beginning service.
  • Turn off the key switch.
  • Remove the battery pack before performing repairs.
  • Retain all hardware removed during the procedure.

Steering Assembly Replacement Procedure

  1. Step 1: Remove the two front wheel caps.
  2. Step 2: Remove the two bolts fastening the front wheels to the transaxle.
  3. Step 3: Remove the two front wheels.
  4. Step 4: Remove and retain the two 5mm Allen bolts. These bolts are located behind the front wheels and must be removed from the top side of the scooter.
  5. Step 5: Remove and retain the one 8mm Allen bolt that connects the steering assembly to the scooter.
  6. Step 6: Remove the steering assembly. Some force may be required to remove the steering assembly from the front bearings.
  7. Step 7: Install the replacement steering assembly by reversing steps 1-6.

Important Service Notice

The steering assembly does not include the 5mm or 8mm Allen bolts. Retain the original hardware during disassembly so it can be reused during installation.

Post-Replacement Inspection

  • Verify all steering hardware is reinstalled and tightened securely.
  • Verify the front wheels are properly installed.
  • Check that the steering assembly moves freely.
  • Inspect for excessive play or binding in the steering system.
  • Test steering operation before returning the scooter to service.
