What are the battery types on mobility products?

The battery type section under the specifications of mobility products shows what type of battery a product has and also shows the voltage information of the battery. Aside from the specifications tab on our website, you can also learn what kind of battery a mobility product has by either checking the manual or the product brochure. There are two kinds of batteries that you can expect to see when checking this information.

Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) – this is the traditional type of battery that some mobility scooters have. You can determine if you have this kind of battery if you check the label on the battery or the brochure you got from the scooter where the batteries are from. Aside from that, you can also know that you have an SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) battery if they are heavier and you’ll usually need to use two big 12 volts batteries wired in series.

Lithium Battery – this type of battery that some mobility scooters use is lightweight, provides a longer travel range, and comes with a better warranty. They also last much longer when it comes to the total amount of charging cycles they can handle over their expected life. It is also more expensive than SLA batteries and some mobility products have this as an option for a battery upgrade.

For reference, the expected life cycles for both batteries are:
2 to 3 years for Sealed Lead Acid batteries and 5 to 10 years for Lithium batteries.
