Golden Buzzaround (Model GB120 by Golden Technologies)

The PROS

When you fold it, it folds flat, when you fold the seat it takes a very very low profile the dimensions are only 12 inches when fully folded! This model can hold up to 300 pounds and it can travel up to 3.6 miles per hour. If you get the travel-friendly, airplane-friendly battery which is 6.5 amp hours, you’ll get about 8 miles. If you get the larger 15 amp hour battery you get about 18 miles. There is no upgrade fee for the bigger battery either which is nice on the pocket.

One of the most impressive specs is that this scooter has 4 inches of ground clearance, by far the best folding scooter for going on grass. You have a lot of clearance under the bottom part of the floorboard and the actual floor itself.

You can take the battery off and charge it while the battery is off, you can also charge it with the battery on the scooter, you can charge your scooter wherever you please. It also has USB charging ports to charge your cell phones and it has a built-in cup holder. This model comes with a basket, and it has lights on the front and the back.

The Carry-On has handles on the left and the right side as well as on the front so that when you’re ready to load it into the trunk of your car you don’t have to bear the full weight of the scooter. You can just tilt the front wheels up so that tilted up against the entry point of your trunk or cargo space of your SUV and then pick up the bottom to cantilever it and wheel it right into the cargo space of your SUV or the trunk of your car or the bed of your truck. All in all this product weighs about 65 pounds (fully assembled) and you can remove the battery to save about 5 pounds.

If you’re on a modern smartphone or desktop computer, you can enjoy the Virtual Reality test drive video below to see what it’s like to ride and transport the GB120 scooter:

The CONS

The steering assembly is not height adjustable. However, adjusting the steering assembly column is a little difficult. Therefore, if you are somebody that lacks hand strength, you may need assistance to maneuver the lever. We made a video below to show you how to tilt the steering assembly properly:

Solax Folding Mobility Scooter by Enhance Mobility

The top-selling automatic folding mobility scooter for over 3 years and running is without a doubt the Transformer. The manufacturer has updated the design to improve usability and they even added suspension in 2021 to the latest version.

The PROS

To fold and unfold this model, you just use a key fob for the Transformer scooter, similar to a security lock fob for your car, you just hit a button and it starts folding. This scooter folds up into the shape of a suitcase, so it stands with the handlebar up when it is fully folded. Therefore, you can carry it along like a piece of luggage or a suitcase that has wheels.

This scooter can handle 300 pounds and comes with an airplane-friendly battery under 300 watt-hours, which in most cases is FAA and airplane friendly. This scooter can reach a top speed of 3.75 MPH and has a travel range of up to 13.5 miles. One of the impressive specifications of this scooter is the incline rating of up to 15 degrees. That is the best in its class, so this is a great option for hilly areas. The Transformer comes with flat-free wheels, not inflatable tires. In addition, the newer models come with suspension, which offers an overall smoother ride.

This scooter and the Golden BuzzAround Carry-On have the most comfortable seats out of all folding scooter options and both come with armrests. The Carry-On and the Solax Transformer both come with a one-year repair contract. If anything goes wrong, you are covered with the parts and service warranty. For the first year, the manufacturer will send a technician to your home, free of charge, to fix your scooter due to any approved warranty claims! And if you’re local to one of our mobility scooter stores we will be the ones coming up to do the repairs for you.

The CONS

The ground clearance for the Solax is not as good as the Carry-On. However, it can handle maintained grass quite well. It is a common complaint that the tiller assembly becomes loose over time. Luckily, it is not very difficult to tighten it, but we felt that it is important to mention it as a potential con. We made a short video, see below, to show you how easy it is to tighten a loose steering assembly.

Furthermore, the battery cannot be charged outside of the scooter without the purchase of the off-board charging station. So, if you live in an apartment and want to keep your scooter in your car, you would have to spend a little bit of extra money. Also, the GB120 battery has a charging port on the battery which is very convenient. The Transformer does not…

Something else to mention is that the Carry-On has a USB charging port on the battery itself. So, if you wanted to take that battery with you somewhere to have a backup battery to charge your cellphones and your tablets you can do that, with the Solax transformer you cannot. One other thing to mention about the Transformer is it does have a reverse beeper which some people consider to be annoying it’s really loud and high-pitched. So when you’re reversing it starts beeping loudly. The good news is you can disable that reverse beeper as shown in the video below (video tutorial below).

Go Go Folding Scooter by Pride Mobility

The Folding Go-Go is the most popular option that combines affordability and dependability. It is made by Pride Mobility, the best travel mobility manufacturer. This is the only Folding model Pride offers currently.

The PROS

The maximum weight capacity of this scooter is 250 pounds. It goes up to 4 MPH and can travel up to 13 miles with the lithium battery upgrade. With the standard battery option, it can travel up to 9.3 miles. The lithium battery actually weighs significantly less compared to the SLA option. You will have to pay for the lithium battery upgrade but it does give you a better range with the lithium. The lithium upgrade is FAA-compliant meaning you can take it on an airplane. The total weight of this scooter without the batteries is 51 pounds, which is comparable to other related models.

The seat is not as comfortable as the Transformer or the Carry-On and the padding is somewhat limited. The seat width is 16 inches and the depth is 13 inches, which for some people may be a little too conservative. It does have ample floor space and there is a little bit of a carpet. The folding Go-Go also has handles on the front left and right sides, which makes it easy to pick up if you need to.

The folding Go-Go has a great turning radius but, it also has two wheels in the front, so it is a hybrid between three and four-wheel scooters, which provides a little more stability than your average three-wheel scooter. This scooter has electromagnetic automatic brakes so you do not need to worry about braking. The steering column does not get loose because of the way it’s designed which is nice you don’t have to worry about that. We feel that it’s a really solid scooter. It is built well and comes with an excellent warranty by pride just like the enhanced mobility and the GB120 it comes with a one-year repair contract in the home.

The Cons

One thing I want to mention about this scooter is that you do not have armrests on it. However, you can now pay for an upgrade to get armrests on this model. Some people would consider it a con because you would have to pay extra for the armrest. On the other models we reviewed, you do not need to pay for an armrest upgrade. Although this one is initially more affordable than the other options, therefore it is all relative. One other con that I want to point out is that the battery compartment itself, which is located under the seat, is a little bit difficult to get out. So if you have physical limitations that don’t allow you to bend over and carry too much weight, it is kind of inconvenient compared to the other models which have battery packs that are easy to remove

Transport Folding Mobility Scooter by EV Rider

EV Rider is based in Florida and provides great service to dealers and customers alike.

The PROS

This four-wheel option was just released in late 2021 and is compact and very lightweight. It folds automatically and it just has some great features. Check out the video below to see what it’s like.

This scooter can handle up to 250 pounds, which is limited compared to other models. It has a 10-mile range on the lithium battery, which is 11.5 amp hours and travel-friendly. Notably, this model comes with a lighting kit showcased on the front and rear. It is super compact and works easily with the remote control key fob. It is also the most affordable auto-folding scooter.

The Cons

The seat itself is very limited, the backrest of this seat is about half the size of all the other ones on this list. So, if you need something with more support, this model might not be for you. The seat padding is also limited just like the Folding Go-Go by Pride. The seat width measures 15 inches and the depth measures 12 inches.

It is noteworthy to mention that this model has limited foot space, especially compared to the other models on our list. I feel that this scooter is meant for somebody who’s probably around 150 pounds to 200 pounds. We do not recommend loading a scooter with the maximum capacity. The batteries and motor will be under immense pressure and not function optimally. Additionally, this scooter is a great option for flat surfaces but does not perform sufficiently on grass and inclines.

You can also get the manual folding and that’s even more affordable is a great product made by a great company here in Florida and we do highly recommend the Transport mobility scooter series this again is just one of about four different transports we have the Manual Transport M Scooter, Transport Plus, Transport Auto Fold 4 wheel which is this model and the original Transport AF.  The original Transport is a hybrid model with 2 front wheels that are very close together. This means you get a turning radius that is like a 3-wheel mobility scooter while having the stability of a 4-wheel mobility scooter.

One of the cons that I’m going to point out about this scooter is a pretty important one. If your battery dies while this is folded, you really can not unfold it unless you hire a technician. In addition, the Transport AutoFold’s battery pack is not removable. You cannot charge the battery while it is removed from the scooter. Now this scooter just like the transformer does have a folding switch on the rear body panel of the scooter. If you lose your key fob, you can use the buttons on the back to fold/unfold it.

Overall we think this is a great scooter considering its price. The only downfall is that it does not come with a one-year repair contract.
