I am trying to troubleshoot a Rascal 305 mobility scooter for a low income gentleman that can not afford to take the scooter into a shop. He said that it just quit working one day. The scooter also has the electric adjustable seat. With the key turned to the right the potentiometer (via the forward/reverse levers) controls the scooter drive motor. With the key turned to the left the potentiometer controls the up/down of the seat height. Both the drive of the scooter and the seat height adjustment are not working. Since the potentiometer controls both this is where I started my troubleshooting. I have 25 volts at the battery and at the key switch input and outputs (when on). I jumped from the battery to the drive motor and to the seat adjustment motor and both work.
The potentiometer has the following voltage readings:
Input: 3.68v
Wiper: 2.5v (no matter where the speed dial is set)
Ground: 1.3v
Should the input be the full 25 volts or is it reduced at the controller box and when received back at the controller jumped back up before going to the motor?
The speed pot voltage is:
2.5v at both wires.
I am trying to figure out if the forward/reverse pot is bad or if it’s the speed control pot or if it is the controller box.
Any help would be appreciated.I’m sorry but we have never carried or worked with Rascal Scooters. I would contact the MFG or visit their website for a troubleshooting guide.
