The dealer who told my wife her Maxima wasn’t worth fixing and sold her a new one, said the problem was in the brake, so I removed the brake and tested it. It seems to work:
Unlocked: turns freely, infinite resistance (open circuit)
locked: 58 ohms between leads
24 volts applied to leads: unlocks and turns freely. The motor works. 24 volts applied to leads, turns in both directions.
Other observations:
Lights and horn work.
Charger indicates it’s charging and brings batteries up to full charge.
“Motor disconnected” code (8 flashes)Since the motor and brake both work, the problem would appear to be in the control system, but where? Is it likely in the control module (black box) or in some switch, connector or harness?
Is there any hope of finding a service manual for this model? Something with a real wiring diagram, that tells me where to measure voltages and what the readings should be.
Unfortunately, there is no diagram with what you’re asking for. You would just need to take it into a shop with a tech that is honest. Sounds like the tech you’re going to is just trying to get a sale… You may just need a new controller…
