We have a Pride Maxima, the battery charger shorted out and melted the wiring harness, so we have replaced the harness, motor, controller, switch and all of the switches, new batteries and new charger. The scooter will move, but it is slow and the speed dial does not have any effect on the speed, it’s like it only operates in a slow mode. So could anybody tell me what could be wrong with this thing? It belongs to a friend of mine and he really needs his scooter. I check the ohms on the speed switch and it’s 64 ohms, I have tried 2 other new ones and the ohms were 112 and 124 on the other 2 new ones. We have spent a small fortune on this thing and it’s almost worthless the way it is. Thanks

It sounds like you wired the motor to the controller wrong. To test this, try going in reverse and it should be going in reverse really fast (as fast as it should while going forward). Usually, the scooter going backward at 1/3 the forward speed capability. I’m willing to bet yours does the opposite.

First how do you wire the motor wrong, when the plugs only go one way and second, it doesn’t matter going forward or reverse does the same, no difference. I work on golf carts and I know that wiring a motor wrong that reverse is slower than forward. This is not the case, as I stated the motor has a connector that will only connect one way, no way to connect it wrong, if fact every connection has a unique plug, so no way to connect them anywhere but where they are suppose to go. Also, like I said every piece of electrical on it from wiring harness, motor, and every switch has been replaced with all new stuff. On a new controller does it come already programmed? Because I have put 2 new controllers on it and both do the same thing, no difference.

Yes – the controllers are pre-programmed. Something is wrong with the configuration, there is no other explanation. If you’ve worked on golf carts, then a multimeter will show you exactly where the issue is. These are not complex machines.
