Hi, I’m not a repair technician by any means, but I am a do-it-yourselfer who loves helping people. I am currently helping someone who was given an older model Pride Jazzy wheelchair (not sure of the model). This chair was left out in the weather for a long time, so it was in pretty bad shape. However, with fresh batteries installed, the chair powered up. It just wouldn’t move. I was able to unplug the motors and check voltage being sent to the motors and I get +23 volts when pushing the control stick forward and about -18 volts (if I remember right) when pulling the control stick backward. Moving the stick left and right seems to send appropriate positive and negative voltages to the motors. I took each motor apart, and they were full of rust. I was able to clean all the rust out and the bearings still turn smoothly enough. Amazingly, the motors run great! The problem is, when I push the control stick forward, the chair backs up FAST. When I pull the stick backward, the chair moves forward slowly. Move the stick left, and the chair turns right, and move the stick right, and the chair turns left. I have checked EVERY connection and nothing is backwards. What would cause this?
The joystick controller needs to be re-programmed. You’ll need to find a local tech for this.
Good morning… What was the fix?
I just purchased a used pride jet 3 ultra for my father. The wheelchair seems to be in good shape. Pushing the joystick forward, to the right, and to the left, it operates normally. Moving the joystick straight back, the wheelchair reverses. However, when I push the joystick back and to the right, the chair moves back and to the left. When I put the joystick back and to the left, the wheelchair moves back and to the right.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
