Tagged: battery charging
I currently use a wheelchair but I cannot plug it into charge at night due to medical issues and sensitivities so I have a spare battery that is charged and swapped over once a month – however the spare battery is struggling to keep its charge as its not charged regularly – I do get it charged for 12 hours x 3 before it is swapped over. Any recommendations please or does it sound like it is dying? have I overcharged it?
Thanks
Hello Megsyjenks,
The batteries need to be charged when the battery meter reads yellow or red. Some battery indicators show bars instead of colors, just be sure to charge when the battery is getting low. If you let the battery drain down to 0% battery, its almost guaranteed that they won’t work right soon after. Even if they charge up all the way, once a battery gets drained to 0% they’re pretty much done for. I always recommend charging when the battery reaches 15% to 20% capacity. If you go any lower than that, you’re basically causing stress to the battery. To learn more about how to get the most out of your battery, I recommend reading our mobility scooter battery tips blog which I’ve linked below.
