Hi Everyone, am new here, and have come looking for help / guidance on how to solve an issue we have here with a Pride Go Go Elite Traveller Mobility Scooter.
We have 3 battery boxes for the scooter as we do a lot of travelling and like to have a spare so my father (the user) doesn’t run out of power etc. The battery boxes all contain 22Ah SLA AGM/GEL Deep cycle batteries to give an increased range between charges than the standard batteries you get when purchasing the scooter.
These have been working fine until recently. We suffered a 5-10 second power cut whilst all 3 battery boxes was on charge, since then 2 of the batteries are not performing as expected, the range has decreased considerably. I wondered if anyone has any suggestions or ideas what could have caused this, and if so, how to solve / fix the issue?
This has happened in the past and we have just replaced the batteries, however, this is a costly endeavour to keep repeating. Also, we have used a car battery charger in the past and this has seemd to have fixed the issue, but not sure whether this is advisable to keep repeating etc.
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions
John
You have likely damaged the unit by using AGM/GEL batteries. These units are designed to only work with dry cell sealed lead-acid batteries.
Thanks Andrew, sorry it’s taken a while to come back to you.
Can you explain your comment a bit more please, many websites say that GEL are better for daily use and many on sale are AGM/GEL based.
If you can, could you provide a link to the batteries you are suggesting to be the correct ones?
John
