Hi, my Pride Go Go Sport will stop suddenly and won’t move. This can occur with no beeps at all, or in the past, with 6 beeps. However, letting go of the lever and re-inserting the key does not fix it. This happens when the battery is fully charged. The scooter will not work for several minutes, and then it will start again. I should note this problem started for the first time when I had new batteries put in over a year ago. I went back to the supplier several times, they couldn’t figure it out. Finally they put new batteries in again, and for several months it worked fine. But then problems began with the batteries dying very quickly (turns out they were swollen). The supplier put in new batteries again (which was just a few months ago). However, once they did this, the scooter resumed stopping for no reason after about an hour of use, no beep whatsoever. It resumed after a few minutes. The supplier/service shop has no idea what is going on. Do you?
Hello Scooterjam,
Sorry to hear about your issues with your Gogo Sport. It’s not uncommon for customers to ask us questions such as:
“Why does my mobility scooter keep stopping”
“Why does my mobility scooter keep losing power”
“why does my mobility scooter suddenly stop”
“why does my mobility scooter keep turning off”
“why does my mobility scooter turn off and on”There are many reasons why a scooter will randomly lose power, but most of the time it’s the batteries. In rare cases, it can also be the motor, but when it’s the motor it usually has a few indicators that you can look out for. For example, if the motor is going bad, it will not just stop abruptly, it will usually start to slow down or even make some noise before turning off.
In other rare circumstances, it could be a loss of signal due to a wire getting cut or disconnected somewhere between the controller and the motor.
At the end of the day, it would be best if you had a highly trained and experienced mobility scooter that has worked with Go-Go’s to take a look at it. There are many techs out there that can pinpoint exactly what’s wrong with a gogo quickly, they are not complex machines.
Have you read the troubleshooting guide in the user manual for your Gogo? If not, here is the link:

My Jazzy electric wheelchair kept doing this and I changed the batteries only to find the same issue was occurring. At first I thought for sure it would be the batteries but after bringing the chair to a technician, I was told it was actually a issue with the controller going bad!
I’ve had several power chairs and scooters throughout my life, this is the first time I’ve ever had a controller go bad on me. I never tipped the chair over or hit the controller on anything, I’m disappointed that it broke but I suppose its just a numbers game. Electronics fail not just on wheelchairs, on anything that relies on them.
My suggestion to anyone who is having intermittent power issues with your mobility scooter or power wheelchair… Take it to the technician instead of wasting money on new batteries that it might not need. I spent over $200 dollars on batteries, over $40 on a new charger and then $150 on a in home service call just to find out it was going to cost another $350 to get a replacement controller. I ended up saying screw it and just bought a new Jazzy Air 2 🙂
