What is The Best Lift Chair For Sleeping?

If you’re on the market for a lift chair, then you might be like many of our customers that know they’ll be taking a snooze from time-to-time on it. Let’s face it, when you sit on a comfortable lift chair recliner watching tv for a while, it’s hard not to fall asleep! With this in mind, we’ve decided to write up a blog post that explains what to look for when purchasing a lift chair that will be comfortable for long periods of time, like when you are sleeping.

Before we recommend any specific models, we want to give some general advice and educate readers on what the important specifications and features to look for in a lift chair are. These are key features and specifications that you’ll want to be familiar with when buying ANY lift chair. If you’re already familiar with lift chairs and the different types of specs that are important to look out for, then scroll down the section below that recommends the best models.

Get Familiar With The Best Lift Chair Brands First

It’s important that you take the time to not only familiarize yourself with these different features, buts it’s also important that you do your research on the manufacturer that actually makes the medical recliner you’re interested in. You can easily get on sites like Amazon for very cheap, but they could be made by manufacturing companies that don’t offer warranty support or that make it easy to get parts. The top lift chair brands that are reliable and known to produce high-quality products are Pride Mobility and Golden Technologies. Between those two manufacturers, there are over 40 different lift chair models to choose from. Most of which, have custom options for size, color, fabric, and more.

Pride Mobility lift chairs are in our opinion, the best to go with because of many reasons. The first is because Pride Mobility is the most dependable manufacturer in the industry WITHOUT QUESTION. When a customer has a problem or needs a replacement part (which is rare), Pride Mobility is quick to get the part out to our customer and they even pay for the replacement service if the chair is still under warranty. With all Pride lift chairs, you get a free 1-year in-home repair contract that works in conjunction with the warranty. The warranty on Pride power lift recliners is unmatched by the competition, you can read the entire warranty on any of the lift chair product pages on our website. Simply put, if you want the best value, stick with Pride Mobility products. We offer all Pride lift chair recliners with free shipping and we do not charge sales tax! 🙂

Second, on the list of the best lift chair manufacturers is Golden Technologies. GT has been around for a very long time and they make great products. While they take a little while longer to ship compared to Pride, they also provide excellent support to customers and offer the same in-home service plan in conjunction with an excellent warranty. Golden has a very wide selection of lift chairs which you can find on our website with free shipping and no sales tax. We strongly recommend Golden Lift Chairs to anyone on the market.

Adjustability Factors

If you plan on sleeping on a lift chair, you will definitely want to make sure it has the adjustability to get you into a position that is comfortable for you to sleep in. For sleeping, we recommend getting a chair that has the ability to lay completely flat. The Zero-Gravity lift chairs and Infinite Position Lift Chairs will typically have this ability so when you start shopping, we recommend narrowing your selection down by only looking at those types of lift chairs.

We also recommend a chair that allows you to independently control the leg rests and the back of the chair. If you look at the remote controller of the recliner you’re considering, make sure you can clearly see the option to control the top and bottom half of the chair independently (see an example of lift chair controllers below). We recommend this for users that prefer to have a custom seating position as each user is different. Some users like to have the back slightly reclined with the leg rest all the way up. Other users prefer to have the leg rest down with a slight recline on the back. Ultimately, you want to have the option to choose a position that is not limited by a chair that only has one motor to control the upward and downward lifting-motion.

Lastly, we also recommend having a chair with headrests and lumbar support control. Many users will often have neck stiffness in the morning when they fall asleep on a couch or recliner. Many times, that is due to the headrest or head support cushion on the chair making your neck extend forward. With a lift chair that has headrest adjustability, you can make sure that your neck is in a position that will keep you comfortable for a good night’s sleep.

Sizes & Measurements

One of the most important things to look for in a chair is the size of the chair and the measurements of the chair. Pride and Golden offer different sizes that are suited for people in certain height ranges as well as some chairs that are much wider than others. The two manufacturers also offer “petite” size chairs made for smaller users as well. With every model that you find on our website, simply look in the “Custom Options” section for size options (as shown in the example below).

Aside from the different size options, you can also check the specs of each size option to make sure that the chair is going to be a good fit for yourself or the intended user. Measurements like the distance between the armrests and the depth of the chair are important to pay close attention to. You should also pay attention to the seatback height to ensure that you’re a good fit and the seat-to-ground height to make sure that your legs won’t be dangling too high when you sit in the chair. You can see all of these specifications and more by clicking on the specifications tab below the product image gallery on our product pages (example shown below).

Fabrics Types

Another factor to think about if you want a chair that you’ll be sleeping in or spending a lot of time in is the fabric that it’s made out of. While leather is a premium choice, it might not be the best option for sleeping in if you live in states where it gets very cold at night. Fabric options that are made of cotton or microsuede tend to be better during the colder months and help to preserve warmth better. We recommend sticking with a fabric option that is soft like the Cloud 9 Fabric offered by Pride Mobility. Examples of fabric types and colors can be seen below which is the selection for the LC 105 lift chair.
